Errol School Board

Minutes April 19, 2004

 

 

Errol School Board met at the Errol School on April 19, 2004 at 7 p.m.

 

Present were: Norman Eames, Gloria Coffin, and Theresa Choquette, School Board members. Also present were: Superintendent Steven Welford, Business Administrator Pauline Plourde, Principal Kathleen Urso, Teachers Sharon Lane and Mary Teri Cote, and Recording Secretary Clara Grover.

 

I.          Call to Order/Reorganization of Board: Superintendent Welford called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m. and then asked for nominations for the chairman position, Norman Eames was nominated, Gloria Coffin was nominated as vice-chair and Theresa Choquette was nominated as secretary.  Everyone on the Board accepted their positions.

 

 

II.         Motion by Gloria Coffin and second by Norman Eames to accept the March 13, 2004, minutes.  All were in favor; minutes approved.

 

III.       Communications:  Gloria mentioned the Lego Camp workshop on June 28-29-30, 2004, will accept 24 kids at $10.00 each.  Mothers with younger children are welcome to come.  Posters and information packets will be prepared.

 

           The Fran Coffin Fund received money from Irving Drivers who knew Fran.

 

Robert Senter will be asked if he is interested in doing the electrical work that     needs to be done in the school building

 

IV.      Principal’s Report:  The Penny Sale held on April 17-18, 2004 could bring about $4000 for the ball field fund.  The students are working on their projects for the science fair to be held on April 22, 2004 at the school.  Parents will be notified about free student IDs sponsored by several organizations because of Homeland Security updates.  In May, Student in grades 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, will be taking tests to determine each student’s progress and growth for the year.  Mary Teri Cote and Michele Johnsen have completed the Alternative IV Process for Teacher certification and Kathleen Urso has completed certification for Principal/Administrator.  They are waiting for their certificates from the state.

 

V.       Superintendent’s Report:  Pauline Plourde pointed out that it will be possible that    there will be extra funds at the end of the year to put some in the Playground Trust Fund and reduce taxes. 

Pauline Plourde explained about the Scholarships that are available to any Errol Student after they graduate high school: Robert & Ester Bean Scholarship, Chris Sullivan Scholarship, Bicentennial Scholarship, and Hydro Scholarship.  Deadlines for the scholarships will be May 15, 2004.  These scholarships will be given on Class Day in the different high schools.

     

Superintendent Welford explained the School Calendar for 2004-2005 and gave a report about a new test (Northwest Computer Test) for the students that can be done on the computer.  This test is set up for the individual student.  Because Errol is so small, Superintendent Welford is going to try to get in with Gorham, the cost will be $12.00 for every two students.  Gloria Coffin made the motion to go with the testing and Theresa Choquette seconded the motion.  There is a workshop for School Board members to be held in Whitefield on May 27th, and in Concord on May 13th.  Theresa Choquette was interested in going.  The Board members were asked if they wanted to keep the 3rd Monday of the month as their meeting night. All were in favor. 

Nominations: Four members of the staff received raises.  Motion was made by Theresa Choquette and seconded by Gloria Coffin to accept the nominations.

VIII.     Gloria Coffin made the motion to go into Non-Public Session: RSA 91-A:311 at 8:05 p.m.. Theresa Choquette seconded the motion.
