Meeting Minutes

September 13, 2004

Members present: Joane Belleau, Mariann Letarte

 

Others present: Patrick Low – SAU Superintendent, Pauline Plourde – SAU Business Administrator, and Julie Renaud Evans – recording secretary

           

Call to Order

J. Belleau called the meeting to order at 6:32 p.m.

 

Approval of minutes

The Board reviewed the minutes of August 16.

           

            Motion by M. Letarte, second by J. Belleau.

            Motion: To accept the minutes of August 16, 2004 as presented.

            Vote:  All in favor.  Motion passed.

 

Vouchers

One voucher was presented for signatures.

 

            Motion by M. Letarte, second by J. Belleau.

            Motion: To approve payment of voucher as presented.

            Vote:  All in favor.  Motion passed.

 

Communications

The communications to be discussed necessitated a Non-public Session.

 

            Motion by M. Letarte, second by J. Belleau.

            Motion: To enter Non-public session under RSA 91-A:311C.

            Vote:  J. Belleau – yes, M. Letarte – yes

 

The Board discussed

1. Letter from a Dummer high school student.

2. Letter from Gorham School Board.

No action was taken.

 

            Motion by M. Letarte, second by J. Belleau.

            Motion: To come out of Non-public session.

            Vote:  All in favor. Motion passed.

Board returned to public session at 7:06 p.m.

 

Superintendents Report

Financial Report

P. Plourde presented the Financial Report indicating the projected tax impact increase of $ .81, based upon a total approved appropriation of $ 517,541.00, but noting that she was awaiting confirmation of town evaluation figures from the Selectmen.  The Board also reviewed the Student List of enrollments; Dummer had 25 students at the Milan school, 12 students at Berlin Junior High, and 16 students at Berlin High.  Board members signed the Projected Transfer Schedule.

 

Superintendent Low reported that the renovations to address the mold issues at MVS were 90% completed. He also informed the Board of additional problems found in the roof structure with plywood sheathing improperly attached to the hats attached to the steel trusses.  He spoke briefly of the suggestions Turner Group has made to get through the winter to minimize leaking and heat loss, while maintaining the integrity of the problems until settlement is made.  Superintendent Low indicated that the Milan School Board will be hosting an informational meeting on September 22 at 6:30 p.m. to discuss this with the public as well as recommending holding the fund balance through the winter in case it’s needed for emergency repairs.

 

Superintendent Low also

  • Asked for feedback on the opening of school.
  • Reported that NCIA had met with the Milan Board offering High Speed Internet access. 
  • Noted that the PTA at the MVS has been reinstated; the Board discussed the approval process for student fundraising activities.
  • Discussed Café Services, the MVS food service provider
  • Reported the work of the Gorham Building Committee and the Cooperative Planning Board.

 

Public Comments

 

There were no public comments.

 

Other

 

The Board discussed school cancellation and phone tree responsibilities.

 

Next Meeting

The Board stated the next meeting would be on November 16, 2004 at the Milan Village School at 6:00 PM with a possible joint meeting with the Milan School Board at 6:30 PM.
