Superintendents Report

Financials

P. Plourde presented the Financial report to the Board.  She noted a $184.00 increase in revenue which was Dummer’s share of a grant secured by the SAU. She also reported the increase in SPED spending (resulting in a negative balance) was due to an existing SPED student at the middle school now receiving additional services due to new IEP.

P. Plourde also reviewed with the Board the expected billing process for both Berlin and Milan regarding the waived school day and resultant 179 day year.  After contacting other schools around the state, it was found that most consider the school year to be a “product delivered in full,” regardless of the actual number of days the students attend.  Therefore, Berlin will be charging Dummer the entire tuition for 180 days, but it will be presented as a 179 day invoice (with a higher daily rate).

AREA Agreement

Mr. Welford reported that the SAU is still waiting for the new agreement, and that John Moulis of Berlin has promised it for the June meeting.  The Board discussed the anticipated change of a required financial participation (sharing in the bonding) in the event of building upgrades or construction.    The Board discussed major vs. minor changes and J. Belleau recommended the Board plan to present it to the entire district for approval at the annual meeting in March.

Other

School Nurse

M. Letarte asked about the status of the school nurse at Milan Village School.  S. Welford reported that the school has a long term substitute nurse at this time, but the position has not been filled.

School Board Membership

The Board discussed the need to find a third school board member.  They considered those citizens who had received write-in votes, past school board members, students, and interested residents who had been involved in the Community Profile project.  J. Belleau offered to follow up on some of these leads, and stated that finding a member should be the summer focus.

NCES

S. Welford passed on an invitation to J. Belleau to attend the annual NCES dinner on May 8.

School Board Workshops

M. Letarte confirmed that she will attend the School Board workshop in Whitefield on May 27; J. Belleau thought she would make it as well.

The Board stated the next meeting would be on July 12, 2004 at the Dummer Town Hall at 6:30 p.m.  It was noted that June vouchers would have to be signed.
